THE BLUEBONNETS are a tight, tough, rock and roll band from Austin, Texas, with garage band sensibilities, punk undertones and girl-group harmonies complementing a blues/roots core. These influences are evident in the songs: genre defying, well-crafted arrangements held together by guitar interplay and hooks you remember long after the show. The Bluebonnets have released three CDs and earned a steady following with club shows and opening slots or tours with artists from Gary Clark Jr to the Waterboys and Smashing Pumpkins.
The band members are solid, professional musicians—each woman at the top of her game. Guitarist Kathy Valentine picked up guitar and began playing in bands at the age of 16. By age 21 she had moved to LA and joined the trailblazing Go-Go’s. Writing the band’s renowned hit songs “Vacation” and “Head Over Heels,” Kathy was inducted with the Go-Go’s into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2021 and became an acclaimed author with the release of her memoir “All I Ever Wanted.”
Bassist/lead singer Dominique Davalos was raised in LA and NYC, first performing as a child actress with director John Cassavetes. Inspired by the city club scenes and bands, she began singing, notably with synth-pop band Dominatrix, known for the dance club hit and video “The Dominatrix Sleeps Tonight.” Dominique has recorded and toured worldwide and was chosen for the television house band in the Keenan Ivory Wayans show.
Eve Monsees has earned several nominations for “best guitarist” awards in Austin. A formidable player, she was born in Houston and raised in Austin, where she grew up alongside best pal Gary Clark Jr. The two teens learned their chops in the heart of Austin’s blues scene. The on-site school and woodshedding paid off, with Eve fronting her own band Eve and the Exiles and working steadily as an in-demand band side woman for a wide range of musical artists.
Drummer Kristy McInnis is the pocket and backbone of the band. She says drums came naturally to her, passed on from her father, a jazz drummer and her biggest influence. Kristy is a multi-instrumentalist, singer and songwriter, holding down parallel careers playing drums for indie rock bands and as a television producer. As a new Austin resident, and former Los Angeleno, she is rarely without a drumming gig.
“The Bluebonnets has quietly become one of the best and most distinctive rock & roll bands in town, with a surfeit of seasoned talent and an irresistible swagger” The Austin Chronicle
